Senvion has been established in North America for a decade now and the team is proudly celebrating ten years of doing business and building long-lasting relationships with its customers. Senvion will be marking this milestone with customer events throughout the next months. At the same time, under a new North American leadership, Senvion is preparing for a far more competitive market environment, in order to build on its past successes.
Senvion – which started as REpower Systems in the U.S. in 2007 – has an installed capacity of more than 2,600 MW as well as offices and service centers across 13 provinces and states. In Canada, Senvion turbines constitute more than 10 per cent of the country’s wind energy capacity.
The company has gone through a lot of changes over the last ten years. There was the name change due to the expiry of a license agreement. Not too long ago, Senvion was acquired by one of the world’s leading private equity players: Centerbridge Partners of New York. In 2016, Senvion completed an IPO on the Frankfurt stock exchange. Despite all these changes, Senvion remains a Hamburg-based technology leader with a German-engineered portfolio of products.
One of the most recent innovations Senvion has made is the extension of the modularity of its proven three megawatt (3.XM) platform to better address its customers’ needs. At the same time, we are improving our supply chain to enable the lowest levelized cost of energy (LCOE). We are adding value for our clients by using our unique ability to be versatile and agile; customizing opportunities as well as partnering with customers to sharpen their competitive edge. This is our new focus.
Our product offering is following through with this new focus: the Senvion 3.XM platform for the North American market is now spanning four different nominal capacities, with three different rotor diameters, and is suitable for low to medium wind speeds. All of our three megawatt turbines have very low sound characteristics due to aerodynamically optimized blades and serrations at the blade edges. The long-lasting turbine design enables us to provide business certainty over an extended product lifetime of 25 years.
Going forward, Senvion’s business model will include a flexible market approach and high-quality technology that provides business case certainty for our customers. We will sharpen this competitive edge in order to extend our success in the North American market to ten more years at least.
